How to Roll the Perfect Joint (Step-by-Step Guide!)

How to roll the perfect joint

We see so many novices make the same mistake when it comes to rolling joints. That's why we're here to teach you guys how to roll the perfect joint with this step-by-step guide.

How to Roll the Perfect Joint

Grind it Up

The first thing to remember about rolling your joint is that you need to grind them. As a beginner, I made some of the following mistakes:

  • Didn't pick out the stems before I rolled the joint
  • Tried to tear the herb using my fingers

What you end up doing when you do any of these things is waste raw rolling papers. For one, your paper might come out lopsided, and that is going to be difficult to smoke smoothly. Second of all, the stems ruin the entire experience, so those need to be taken out at all costs. What you want to do is remove those stems, and carefully grind the herb before placing it inside your rolling papers.

Choosing the Paper

The next thing you are going to want to do is actually choose your raw rolling papers. There are a number of rolling papers to choose from, and your smoke shop should be able to point out some of the most effective ones. The following are some of the most popular ones to consider:

1. RAW 200's Rolling Papers

2. Solaire Slim Rolling Papers

Make Your Carb

It is important that you make yourself a carb or filter, which is going to act as the tip of your joint. It helps filter what you are smoking; it also helps hold the joint together and makes it easier to hold.

You can make a carb or a filter out of anything as long as it is a thick piece of paper, like a business card. It shouldn't be lacquered or dyed because no one wants to smoke that. Cut the paper about an inch and a half, and just fold it. You can also buy these pre-made along with your raw rolling papers to make the process a lot easier.

The Rolling Moment

All rolling papers come with a sticky part. You are going to want to hold your paper up, and make sure the sticky part is facing you. I can usually tell where the sticky part is because it looks like a shiny strip on the paper. This is the strip you are going to lick to seal your joint.

Hold the paper lengthwise, and fold it in half to make a little boat. Place your carb at the end of the joint.

Now, comes the moment of truth, which is the reason raw rolling papers even exist, you have to start sprinkling your herb into the paper boat. Try to do this carefully so that it is as even as possible.

You are going to want to pinch the top of the paper when you are done sprinkling the herb to close the joint. Start rolling the joint slowly back and forth as you pat down the herb to make sure you do not get any lumps.

I would tuck the side of the paper that is closest to you when you are done rolling the joint, and curl it just a bit. Now, lick the sticky part of your paper, and roll the joint into the sticky part. Then, you are done.

It is okay to mess up a few times. I know I did, but I got the hang of it after a while, so go ahead and have fun with it.
