What is a Gas Mask Bong?
We’re not gonna lie, we thought the gas mask bong was a joke.
Then we realized how awesome and steampunk it looked! Here’s everything you need to know about a gas mask bong.
The concept of combining a bong with a gas mask is simple, but cool to implement. Strap yourself into a gas mask, fill it with smoke, and create your own mini hot box.
Wanna snag one? You may be lucky to find them in a head shop, or a corner store if you’re in the right neighborhood. They’ve also become a staple at a variety of street, art, and music festivals, where the going rate is $75 and up. So be prepared to spend a pretty penny.
But you can’t deny it’s a simple design, when it comes down to it. It’s basically a gas mask that attaches to the end of a bong. The bong portion is detachable: free refills without a mess!
How It’s Used
Honestly, it’s pretty much no different than working a regular bong!
- Fill the bong with water and attach it to the gas mask. Now pack the bowl with your favorite flower.
- Loosen the straps at the back of the gas mask and slide the entire thing over your head. Position the gas mask over your face with the mouthpiece in place, making sure not to spill any bong water. Now tighten the straps so it’s comfortable and snug. But not too snug!
- Next, slide the bowl into the bong, spark up, and clear the chamber. At this point, the gas mask will fill with smoke. If your gas mask is working properly, you should actually be able to exhale freely without pushing air back down the bong.
- Inhale until you’ve cleared the bong and enjoy sitting in your own personalized hot box. When you’ve had enough, simply loosen the straps and pull off the mask. Things can get a little clunky sometimes so be sure you don’t bang the bong portion around too much. You may want to disconnect the bong first and then remove the mask.
Is it Up to Snuff?
Well, it depends on what you want. If it’s a gimmick, then this is perfect for you. Be prepared, though - the instant hotbox effect isn't for everyone, particularly smokers prone to coughing when confronted with big rips. Always be ready to pull the mask and catch your breath - heck, part of the fun of these things is seeing who among your friends can go the longest without tapping out!
At the end of the day, it’s still a bong attached to your face. That creates a handful of obvious pros and cons. For one, because you’re sitting in a cloud of smoke, your eyes may get irritated or dried out. And chances are it’s not going to create the tastiest smoking experience. All in all, you’ll be sitting in a cloud of the smoke you just exhaled, which isn't fun for long, even if it's quite a potent way to get the most out of your toke.
The gas mask bong is good as a fun novelty item and that’s really about it, actually. But for me it’s a gift that keeps on giving, especially for Halloween - and given the relatively low cost of picking one up here at BreazyGreen, you can afford to have one hanging around to challenge your friends in extreme displays of bravery (stupidity?).
